Shughnan is a state which is equally rich in cultural and natural wonders along with the myriad of history and political past that this district is home to. This state provides unique experiences to its tourists in the form of shepherds native food along with it infamous Shirchai teas, long walks or a jagged trekking experience on the many mountains in the region, marvelling at the cozy houseboats on the lake of Yorkh and visiting the many pilgrimage sites, and religious and spiritual centers that are present throughout the district.

In modern times Shughnan and its vassal Roshan were states, whose native rulers, the Mirs of Shughnan, claimed descent from Alexander the Great.
The people residing in the Shughnan district, both the Tajik side and Afghan side of the border, speak their own language called Shughni.

Itinerary

Originally residing on both sides of the border of Afghanistan and Tajikistan alongside the Panj River (Oxus), the Shughni people are the majority of the Ismaili Muslims of the Northeast Badakhshan Province. In the past they had small kingdoms which ruled over nearly all Badakhshan. They are famous for their nature of freedom and education. Their enriched cultural ceremonies and festivals have made the district the biggest tourist attraction for domestic tourists of Afghanistan.

Day One: Crossing from Khorog to Shughnan

In & Around Shughnan, visiting locals and the villages. 

All day and night with local cuisine and accommodation 

Day Two: Hiking to Dehshar-Dara Valley and camping in the alpines.

Offerings of the locals and the area and their infamous Shirchai 

Cooking in the alpine. 

Day Three: Driving to Yorkh Lake of Roshan with remarkable sceneries along the Panj River (Amo River) all the way to Roshan.

Meals and accommodation around the lake. 

Day Four: Visiting the villages and market place as the final day ends with stunningly spectacular views of both side of the Panj river and the green valleys that are a breathtakingly pleasing to watch.

Drive back to the border and crossing into Tajikistan
